Let’s see what they did.

Contrast

Looking at the shades and designs used in the shoe we can see an amazing contrast. The shape of that shoe to a lung and the symbolism it represents one can almost see the lung instead of the shoe. This contrast is key to causing this effect.

Repetition

The center placement of the ad is repeated to give the eye a center stage approach if you will. The focus from top to bottom is in the middle of the page, one segment repeating the other in uniform structure.

Alignment

In keeping with the repetitive nature of the ad, everything is aligned to the perfect center. The distance from the sides of the page are exact allowing the ad to have structure and finesse.

Proximity

Notice how the ad spaces out each detail of the message. Each is carefully spaced to not allow the eye to wander in white space, but rather formally direct the eye where to go next.

Color

With a black an white artistic work coupled with a background of slight grey, the mind can comprehend that there is no need for more color than what it is seeing. The ad is artistically structured to give it’s viewer a satisfaction in monochrome dimension.
